Twenty inches of bar on a 40-volt pack is an aggressive proposition, and Ryobi is straightforward about what it costs: the runtime figure they publish — over 100 cuts — is quoted against an 8.0Ah battery, not the 4.0Ah most owners have. Buy this one bare at $349 and budget for a big pack, or the saw spends its life half-fed. What you get for that is the largest cut capacity in the Ryobi range, 36 inches with a bore cut, and a 52cc-gas equivalence claim backed by full 3/8-pitch .050 chain rather than the low-profile chain on the smaller models. Thirteen pounds bare puts it at the top of what is comfortable to hold out at arm's length, so it is a bucking and felling saw rather than a limbing one.

Best for: Ryobi 40V owners with high-capacity packs who need to buck real firewood rather than clear brush.

Manufacturer figures except the engine class and single-pass cut, which are derived here. What each spec means

  • 20-in bar, 36-in cut capacity
  • 52cc-class power claim
  • Full 3/8 pitch chain

Where it is strong

  • Largest cut capacity Ryobi sells on battery — 36 inches with a bore cut
  • Full 3/8"/.050 70-link chain sharpens and replaces like a gas saw's
  • Bare-tool price of $349 is well under EGO's and Milwaukee's 20-inch saws
  • Runs on the same 40V packs as Ryobi's mowers and blowers

Where it falls short

  • The 100-cut runtime claim assumes an 8.0Ah pack that is not included and costs real money
  • 13.1 lb bare is tiring overhead; this is a ground-work saw
  • No kit option at this price — the kitted versions jump to $443-479
  • A 40V platform pushed to 20 inches will bog where a 60V or 80V saw would not
