Price and availability on Oregon's site may differ.

This is the CS1500 without the party trick: same 15 amps, two inches less bar, no PowerSharp lever, $20 less. The question it turns on is whether you intend to learn to file a chain. If yes, the CS1400 wins, because it runs standard 91PXL ControlCut — a 56-link .050 loop any store stocks for a third of what a PowerSharp chain-and-stone set costs. If no, pay the $20. Oregon does not sell it direct, so the price lives at Tractor Supply, Acme and Home Depot, and Oregon's only published weight — 14.57 lb — is stated to include packaging, which makes it an upper bound rather than a carry weight.

Best for: Woodpile cutting near an outlet for anyone willing to file or swap a standard chain rather than pay for a proprietary sharpening system.

Manufacturer figures except the engine class and single-pass cut, which are derived here. What each spec means

  • Standard 91PXL chain
  • 15A for $119
  • CS1500 without PowerSharp

Where it is strong

  • Runs commodity Oregon 91PXL — cheap, stocked everywhere, no proprietary sharpening kit
  • 15 amps, the same motor rating as the pricier CS1500
  • Made by the company that supplies bars and chains to most of the industry
  • $20 under the CS1500 and about $10 under Oregon's 12-amp CS1200
  • Trigger start, no fuel, no winterizing

Where it falls short

  • No PowerSharp — you sharpen it yourself or pay a shop, which is the CS1500's whole reason to exist
  • Oregon's only published weight includes packaging, so the real carry weight is unstated
  • Oregon does not sell it direct; price and stock live at Tractor Supply, Acme and Home Depot
  • 2-year warranty, a year short of Worx's corded saw
  • Corded, so a 12-gauge extension cord sets the work radius
