B+D's 16-inch corded saw is the odd one in its own lineup. It costs $10 less than the 18-inch CS1518 above it, gives up three amps, and runs a narrow .043-gauge chain where the bigger saw runs commodity .050 — which means the cheaper model is the one with the harder chain to find at a hardware store on a Sunday. What you gain is two and a half pounds: 13.2 lb listed against 15.7, the difference between a saw you can hold at shoulder height for a few cuts and one you cannot. The feature set is otherwise identical, down to the tool-free tensioner and the automatic oiler. Buy it over the CS1518 only if the weight matters more than the bar, and buy a spare 56-link loop with it.

Best for: Light limbing and small-log cutting near an outlet, where two and a half pounds off the CS1518 matters more than two inches of bar.

Manufacturer figures except the engine class and single-pass cut, which are derived here. What each spec means

  • $89 for 12A and 16 in
  • 2.5 lb lighter than the CS1518
  • Narrow .043 chain

Where it is strong

  • 13.2 lb listed makes it the lighter of B+D's two big corded saws
  • Cheapest 16-inch saw still in production here — only a discontinued Greenworks corded undercuts it
  • Automatic oiler and tool-free chain tensioning
  • No fuel, no battery, no seasonal maintenance at all
  • 2-year warranty handled directly by B+D

Where it falls short

  • .043-gauge, 56-link chain is the narrow-kerf loop most stores do not stock — the pricier CS1518 uses the common .050
  • 12 amps is the least motor of any 16-inch saw here; it stalls in dense hardwood
  • B+D publishes neither pitch nor gauge on the product page
  • Plastic throughout, with no serviceable path past the chain and bar
  • Still tethered to a 12-gauge extension cord
