10.6 pounds is the number that sells this saw. Echo calls the CS-501P the lightest 50cc chainsaw in North America and the claim holds up against the obvious rivals — it undercuts a Husqvarna 545 Mark II by more than a pound of powerhead while running the same .325 chain. Owners who have moved to it from 50-class Stihls and Huskys describe the same two things over and over: a torque curve that feels bigger than 50.2cc, and a saw that keeps gaining once a few tanks are through it. The build is properly professional — aluminium handlebar, rim sprocket, decompression valve, translucent fuel tank, and captive bar nuts that stay with the clutch cover so you cannot drop one in the leaf litter. The catch is the price: at roughly $670 it costs about $200 more than Echo's own CS-4920, which is only half a pound heavier and does most homeowner work just as well. Isolated owner reports of an early cracked clutch cover exist but have not become a pattern.

Best for: Pros and heavy firewood cutters who want 50cc power in the lightest possible powerhead and will use the aluminium-handle build.

Manufacturer figures except the engine class and single-pass cut, which are derived here. What each spec means

  • Lightest 50cc in North America
  • 10.6 lb powerhead
  • Captive bar nuts

What owners like

  • 10.6 lb dry powerhead is the lightest 50cc sold in North America — roughly a pound under a Husqvarna 545 Mark II
  • Owners moving from 50-class Stihl and Husqvarna saws consistently report more low-end torque than the displacement suggests
  • Captive bar nuts stay attached to the clutch cover, so they cannot be lost in the field
  • Aluminium handlebar with rubber grip, rim sprocket and magnesium-grade pro internals rather than homeowner plastics
  • Decompression valve and translucent fuel tank make starting and fuel checks genuinely quicker
  • 5-year consumer warranty is unmatched on any competing pro-tier 50cc saw

Common complaints

  • About $670 — roughly $240 more than Echo's own CS-4920, which is only half a pound heavier
  • Standard recoil with no spring-assist or i-30 starter, unlike Echo's cheaper homeowner saws
  • Sold through Echo dealers rather than big-box stores, so there is no retail review aggregate to check
  • Capped at a 20-inch bar — step up to the CS-620P if you need 24 or 27 inches
  • Scattered owner reports of an early cracked clutch cover, though not a documented pattern
