The CS-355T with the handle in the right place. Same 35.8cc engine, same spring-assist start, same 14- and 16-inch bars, but a rear handle and a compact frame that owners keep describing in the same two words: smooth and quick-revving. Landscapers and arborists doing ground clean-up rate it well above its displacement because it revs freely and still has enough low-end that you are not holding it pinned to keep it cutting. One recurring complaint is specific and worth knowing before you buy: the rubber cushion joining the lower left handle to the case tears out, and owners running several of them have replaced it more than once. The other objection is price — at $389.99 to $439.99 it is dear for 36cc, and Echo's own CS-3510 gives you most of the cutting for $90 less. What the extra buys is the pro-line build and the much better anti-vibration, which is what people who run a saw all day are actually paying for.

Best for: Arborists and landscapers who want a compact pro rear-handle for ground clean-up and limbing rather than a homeowner saw.

Manufacturer figures except the engine class and single-pass cut, which are derived here. What each spec means

  • Rear-handle twin of the CS-355T
  • 8.4 lb pro powerhead
  • Free-revving 35.8cc

What owners like

  • Same 35.8cc pro engine as the CS-355T in a rear-handle layout that is safe to run from the ground
  • Owners consistently describe it as smooth and quick-revving with usable low-end torque
  • 8.4 lb powerhead keeps it genuinely compact for a rear-handle saw
  • Spring-assist start, tool-less air filter access and side-access tensioner
  • 5-year consumer warranty on an Echo pro-line saw

Common complaints

  • Documented weak point: the rubber cushion between the lower left handle and the case tears out and needs replacing
  • $389.99-$439.99 is expensive for 35.8cc — the CS-3510 cuts nearly as well for $90 less
  • 3/8 low-profile chain limits cutting speed against .325 saws of similar displacement
  • Capped at a 16-inch bar, so it will not take over firewood duty
  • Dealer-weighted distribution means no retail review aggregate to sanity-check
