Price and availability on Echo's site may differ.

Awkwardly placed, and the spec sheet says why: 45cc in an 11.1 lb powerhead for $389.99, when Echo's own CS-4920 is the identical weight, carries 50.1cc, runs the same .325 chain and takes a 20-inch bar for $20 more. Unless you specifically want the shorter 16-inch setup, the bigger saw is the better buy and owner threads say so bluntly. On its own terms the 4510 is a decent mid-duty saw — spring-assist starting, tool-less air filter access, an adjustable oiler, and a momentary stop switch that springs back to ON so you cannot leave it off and crank at it. The complaints owners raise are the familiar Echo set plus one that is not: it seeps bar oil if stored with a full tank, cold starts can be stubborn, chains come off during break-in, and more than one owner has reported it being fussy about fuel, refusing to start properly on lower-octane pump gas.

Best for: Property owners who want a 16-inch mid-duty saw and have a specific reason not to step up to the CS-4920.

Manufacturer figures except the engine class and single-pass cut, which are derived here. What each spec means

  • 45cc at 11.1 lb
  • Momentary stop switch returns to ON
  • Spring-assist starting

What owners like

  • Spring-assist starter noticeably reduces pull effort for a 45cc saw
  • Momentary stop switch springs back to ON, removing a classic no-start red herring
  • Tool-less air filter access and an automatic adjustable oiler for field maintenance
  • .325" chain on a 16- or 18-inch bar is a faster-cutting setup than the 3/8 low-profile homeowner saws
  • 5-year consumer warranty with Home Depot and Echo dealer support

Common complaints

  • Hard to justify against Echo's own CS-4920 — same 11.1 lb, 50.1cc instead of 45, 20-inch bar capable, for about $20 more
  • Seeps bar oil when stored with a full oil tank
  • Owners report stubborn cold starts, and several say it runs poorly on lower-octane pump gas
  • Thrown chains during break-in and a chain brake that is awkward to disengage when fitting a new chain
  • Capped at an 18-inch bar, so it is not a felling saw
