DeWalt's long-running FlexVolt 16-incher, and the one where the owner reviews matter more than the spec sheet. The saw cuts well — 70 cuts per charge in 6x6 treated pine, tool-free tensioning, a quarter-turn oil cap, and the same 60V packs that run the FlexVolt miter saw. The problem is the oiler and the tensioner. Retailer review threads are full of saws that leak chain oil from new, that puddle in storage even after the reservoir is drained, and of oil pumps delivering a mist rather than a flow; several owners report the tensioner giving up after a handful of hours and letting the chain go slack, which is the dangerous failure. Buy it if you already own FlexVolt packs and will check the bar for oil every tank. Do not buy it as a once-a-year storm saw you leave in a shed — that is exactly the use pattern the leak complaints come from.

Best for: FlexVolt tool owners who cut regularly enough to notice an oiler problem and want to stay on one battery system.

Manufacturer figures except the engine class and single-pass cut, which are derived here. What each spec means

  • Runs the FlexVolt fleet
  • 70 cuts in 6x6 pine
  • Oiler is the weak point

What owners like

  • Shares 60V FlexVolt packs with DeWalt's miter saws, grinders, and blowers, and the packs step down to 20V tools
  • Tool-free chain tensioning and a quarter-turn oil cap make bar service quick
  • DeWalt's figure is 70 cuts per charge in 6x6 pressure-treated pine on the 3.0Ah FlexVolt pack
  • 12.2 lb bare keeps it manageable for a 16" saw once you work off a second battery
  • Kit price around $389 undercuts the Milwaukee and Makita 16" kits by $100 or more

Common complaints

  • Oil leakage is the dominant owner complaint — saws weeping from new and puddling in storage with the reservoir drained
  • Repeated reports of the oil pump delivering only a mist, which ruins bars and chains quickly
  • Owners report tensioner failures after a few hours of use, letting the chain run slack
  • Recessed oil filler sits in a sawdust trap, so debris gets into the reservoir unless you clean it first
  • 3-year warranty, shorter than EGO's five and Milwaukee's five
  • Narrow-kerf .043" chain on a 16" bar limits it in hardwood compared with .050 rivals
