A 45cc-equivalent claim, 11,000 RPM, and a proper 3/8"/.050 chain on an 18" bar — for years this was the biggest battery saw a homeowner could buy without stepping to EGO's 20". Owners who came off gas report it keeps up with what they replaced and single out the LED work light and the twist-dial tensioner as the features they actually use. The tensioner is also the recurring failure: owner reports include chains loosening under load and, in the worst accounts, repeated tensioner failures across replacement units. The other thing to know is that EGO has moved on — the CS1815 (50cc-equivalent, digital display, 6.0Ah pack) is now the 18" EGO sells hardest, and at least one authorized dealer already lists the CS1804 as discontinued even while Lowe's and EGO's own site still carry it. Buy it on a discount, not at list.

Best for: EGO 56V owners who want an 18" bar for bucking and light felling and can catch the CS1804 on clearance as it winds down.

Manufacturer figures except the engine class and single-pass cut, which are derived here. What each spec means

  • 45cc-equivalent at 11,000 RPM
  • 3/8"/.050 standard chain
  • Superseded by the CS1815

What owners like

  • Standard 3/8"/.050 chain, not narrow-kerf — cheap replacement loops anywhere that sells chainsaw chain
  • Owners moving from small gas saws report it matches or beats what it replaced on limbing and bucking
  • EGO claims up to 300 cuts in a 4x4 on the included 5.0Ah pack, the best cuts-per-charge figure in its bar class
  • Twist-dial tool-free tensioning and an LED work light that owners use more than they expected
  • About 9 lb bare, so it is a light 18" if you work off a second pack rather than carrying one

Common complaints

  • The tensioner dial is the model's weak point — chains loosening under load, and owner accounts of repeated tensioner failures on replacement units
  • Now the older of EGO's two 18" saws; the CS1815 supersedes it on power, display, and included pack
  • One authorized dealer already lists it discontinued, so parts and bar/chain availability may thin out
  • 14.5 lb with the 5.0Ah pack, heavier than a 40cc gas powerhead with a tank of fuel
  • At $399 list it is poor value against the CS1815 at $449; it only makes sense discounted
