A battery climbing saw that climbers actually kept. The eFORCE 56V top-handle weighs 7.3 lb with its 2.5Ah pack fitted — heavier than Echo's own 5.2 lb gas CS-2511T on paper, but with no fuel to carry, no fumes in the canopy and no restart drill at the end of a lanyard. Reports from working climbers run long: several years of use, limbs up to about five inches handled without hesitation, and one older climber crediting it with letting him keep working trees at all because he was no longer hauling a heavier saw. Echo rates it at up to 60 cuts per charge, and the 2.5Ah pack refills in 75 minutes on the standard charger or 38 on the rapid — worth knowing, because Echo sells a rapid-charger kit for $20 more that is the version most people should buy. Three SKUs exist and they are easy to confuse: DCS-2500T-12BT is the bare tool at $459.99, -12C1 is this kit at $529.99, and -12R1 adds the rapid charger at $549.99.

Best for: Climbing arborists who want a quiet, fumeless top-handle for pruning and limbing and can live with a 12-inch bar.

Manufacturer figures except the engine class and single-pass cut, which are derived here. What each spec means

  • 7.3 lb with the 2.5Ah pack
  • Up to 60 cuts per charge
  • 38-minute rapid recharge

What owners like

  • 7.3 lb with battery fitted, with no fuel can to haul up and no exhaust in the canopy
  • Working climbers report multiple seasons of use and limbs to around five inches handled easily
  • Brushless motor with low vibration and instant restarts — no pull cord aloft
  • Rapid charger refills the 2.5Ah pack in 38 minutes against 75 on the standard unit
  • Runs on the same 56V eFORCE packs as the rest of Echo's battery range
  • 5-year consumer tool warranty, matched on a battery climbing saw only by Milwaukee's M18 top handles

Common complaints

  • $529.99 for the kit — more than Echo's gas CS-271T top-handle and only $70 under the CS-2511T
  • Heavier than the 5.2 lb gas CS-2511T despite the small 2.5Ah pack
  • 12-inch bar only, with no longer option
  • The 2.5Ah battery is small; up to 60 cuts means carrying spares on a production day
  • Three near-identical SKUs (-12BT, -12C1, -12R1) make it easy to buy the wrong box
