Price and availability on Echo's site may differ.

Echo's biggest saw in North America and the only one in the range rated for a 32-inch bar. 73.5cc, a magnesium crankcase and sprocket cover, four-stage air filtration, and a choice of .050 or .058 gauge chain — the heavier gauge being the one you want if the saw is going to live in dirty hardwood. Loggers and arborists who use it as a primary felling and bucking saw single out two things: the torque, and the fact that dual felling spikes come fitted rather than ordered separately, which several rival makers still treat as an accessory. At 14.8 lb for the powerhead it is only 0.2 lb above the 66.8cc CS-680 and 0.7 lb above the 59.8cc CS-620PW, so the displacement is close to free in weight terms. Price is where it stops being easy: $1,189.99 to $1,309.99 depending on bar, which is real money, though certified arborists reviewing it keep landing on the same verdict — that for a 70cc-class pro saw you get your money's worth.

Best for: Loggers and fallers who need 70cc-class power and long bars every day and want a 5-year warranty behind it.

Manufacturer figures except the engine class and single-pass cut, which are derived here. What each spec means

  • Echo's most powerful North American saw
  • Rated to a 32-inch bar
  • Dual felling spikes standard

What owners like

  • 73.5cc is the most displacement Echo sells in North America, rated for bars up to 32 inches
  • Only 0.2 lb heavier than the 66.8cc CS-680 despite the extra displacement
  • Dual felling spikes fitted as standard, where rivals often charge for the second one
  • Offered with .058" gauge chain as well as .050", which holds up better in dirty wood
  • Four-stage air filtration and a magnesium crankcase and sprocket cover
  • Owners using it as a primary felling and bucking saw report heavy continuous duty without trouble
  • 5-year consumer warranty is unheard of at this displacement

Common complaints

  • $1,189.99-$1,309.99 — by far the most expensive saw Echo sells
  • 14.8 lb powerhead before you add a long bar, chain and fuel
  • Overkill below a 24-inch bar, where the much cheaper CS-620P does the same work
  • Standard recoil with no spring assist — you pull a 73.5cc engine over on the rope
  • The 27.1 fl. oz. fuel tank empties quickly when the engine is working long bars
