Price and availability on Shindaiwa's site may differ.

Shindaiwa and Echo are both Yamabiko brands, and the 358TS is the red-painted sibling of the Echo CS-355T — identical 35.8cc, identical 8.0 lb dry weight, identical 14- and 16-inch bars, identical price. What differs is the handle shaping and the sales channel. The handle is contoured to set the wrist at a more natural angle, and climbers who have run both say the Shindaiwa ergonomics and D-ring placement are the better of the two. Owner verdicts split on starting, which is worth weighing: one long-running thread has an owner praising the oiler, power, chain brake and muffler cover but reporting it never catches on the first pull, a tensioner that lets the chain creep loose, and balance he disliked — while another owner says it cranks easily every single time and specifically values that there are no electronics on the carburettor. The channel is the real decision: Shindaiwa is dealer-only, so there is no big-box counter to walk into.

Best for: Climbers who prefer Shindaiwa's handle ergonomics to the mechanically identical Echo CS-355T and have a dealer nearby.
