Quiet enough that Ryobi built the marketing around it — owners use it in dense neighborhoods on weekend mornings without complaints, and it's a fraction of the racket of any gas saw. Between the noise level and the 6.4 lb bare weight, it's the definition of a zero-ceremony, grab-it-daily saw.

Pruning-class work: limbs, saplings, and small cleanup wood. The 18V ceiling is real — hardwood over about 8 inches becomes a slog, and the 12-inch bar keeps expectations honest. The brushless HP motor is surprisingly willing in soft wood, but this is a big pruner in spirit, not a tree-felling tool.

Any ONE+ pack works, which is the whole appeal — the bare tool is cheap because half of American garages already have the batteries. Sustained cutting drains packs fast, so use a 4.0Ah or larger for real sessions and keep a second pack cycling on the charger for bigger cleanup days.

Just the reservoir size — it's small and needs frequent topping up, so make checking it part of your routine before each session. Otherwise maintenance is essentially chain tension, chain sharpness, and bar oil; there's no engine to service.

The kit prices overlap, and the 40V RY405100 is far more capable in actual cutting. Buy the Whisper for what it uniquely offers — minimum weight, minimum noise, and batteries you already own — if your work is genuinely pruning-scale. If you'll ever cut a downed tree of any size, the 40V saw is the better spend.
