Greenworks finally put a 2.0 kW motor and an 18-inch bar on the 40V platform, which until this SKU topped out at 16 inches — the same power rating the 60V and 80V saws carry, running off the battery line most Greenworks owners already have charged. The kit ships a 5.0Ah pack and the fast 5A charger, so a refill takes 60 minutes rather than the 120 the 16-inch kit's charger needs, and the claimed 160 cuts is the longest runtime Greenworks publishes for any 40V saw. Against the 60V 18-inch at $310 it is $40 more for identical rated power on a smaller platform, so the argument for it is mostly that your batteries already fit. At 9.5 lb bare it is light for an 18-inch saw, and the .050-gauge full-size chain means replacements are on every shelf.

Best for: Existing Greenworks 40V owners who want 18 inches of bar without buying into a second battery platform.

Manufacturer figures except the engine class and single-pass cut, which are derived here. What each spec means

  • 2.0 kW on the 40V platform
  • Claimed 160 cuts per charge
  • 60-minute recharge with the 5A charger

Where it is strong

  • 2.0 kW matches Greenworks' 60V and 80V saws from a 40V pack
  • Ships the 5A fast charger rather than the 2A charger in cheaper 40V kits
  • Claimed 160 cuts is the longest run Greenworks publishes for the 40V line
  • Standard 3/8"/.050 62-link chain — the most commonly stocked size in America
  • 9.5 lb bare is light for an 18-inch saw

Where it falls short

  • Costs $40 more than the 60V 18-inch kit that makes the same rated 2.0 kW
  • 3-year warranty where Greenworks' 80V saws carry 4
  • 40V is the oldest and least energy-dense platform Greenworks still sells
  • Published weight excludes the 5.0Ah battery, which is a real addition at this bar length
